The week at a glance

The experience of teaching practice at NSS GHS Pandalam this week, was suffused with mirthful memories. We started the school week with the morning assembly. Winners of different competitions related to the Onam celebrations at the school, Science Fair and Knowledge Fest ("Arivutsavam") were declared and congratulated in the assembly.

With respect to the classes, I got ample opportunities to get myself acquainted with the students of VIII E, the class allotted to me for practice teaching. We discussed the story "The Little Round Red House" by Carolyn Sheldon Bailey. In fact, I was surprised to find out the evolving teacher in me, constantly in search of innovative ways of integrating teaching materials and aids for diverse learning experiences, starting from the informal interaction to the follow-up activity of each lesson. However, many students were engaged in the practice sessions for the arts fest, as a result of which I could not have a wholesome picture of the class.

On Tuesday, 26th September 2023, Hindi Day was observed in the school. A special morning assembly was conducted in Hindi language and an exhibition was organized by the students, through which the linguistic and creative skills were elegantly showcased.

The air of excitement spread all over the school as we headed towards "Dhwani Tharangam", the much-awaited Arts Fest conducted on 29th and 30th September. As it heralded the prestigious State Kalolsavam and was organized as the initial step in the selection procedure for the same, both students and their parents were equally excited.

The school headmistress lighted the lamp for the programme on 29 September. Two halls in the school were set up as the stages for conducting various competitions. The first day was vibrant with numerous dance items including Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Mohiniyattam, Keralanadanam and Group Dance on Stage One. Stage Two witnessed Recitation (Malayalam, English, Hindi, Arabic and Urdu), Mappilappattu and Patriotic Song.

On the second day, Thiruvathira, Oppana, Skit, Vanchippattu, Nadanpattu and Group Song stole the show. The heavy downpours outside could not even touch the creative, aesthetic and artistic spark that was tirelessly ablaze for the two days.

As the curtain falls both for the fest and the week, I cannot but wait for more experiences and memories of the days to come...!!!
